The Simpsonville Sentinel is proud to introduce our Veteran of the Month, U.S. Army Combat Veteran, Command Sergeant Major Jeff Brown. The military service of the Brown family dates back to the French and Indian War of 1754, and this photo shows 3 generations of the Brown family, all in their U.S. Army class ‘A’ uniforms.

All 3 generations served in the Army, all served in Infantry units, all were combat veterans with multiple tours in war zones across the world. What an incredible legacy this family has created. Jeff’s father Harvey Brown served two combat tours in Vietnam receiving the Bronze Star with Valor and retired as a Major. Jeff’s son, Jeremy is currently serving after 4 combat tours, 2 in Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division.

Jeff Brown has also served 4 combat tours, 1 with Desert Storm, 2 in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan. He served 2 tours in Korea during his 30-year military career, served as a Drill Sergeant as well as a Black Hat Instructor at the Airborne Jump School at Ft. Benning, Ga. One of Jeff’s most notable experiences,  was the opportunity to brief then President Ronald Reagan immediately following his ‘Tear Down This Wall’ Speech in 1987.

Jeff and his lovely wife Cindy of 40 years have 2 children and a 4th grandchild on the way. They live in Simpsonville and attend Brookwood Church.

Jeff continues to serve with veterans as the President of Greenville Vets Helping Vets. Among the many services they provide to veterans and their surviving families  transport to medical appointments, building wheelchair ramps, visiting shut-ins, financial assistance, auto repairs, assisting with school supplies and supporting widows and children of deceased veterans.

Jeff’s shares this life lesson with us that he has raised his 2 children by: Never Say No ! Take every opportunity that comes your way, because it could provide amazing experiences and a full life that you wouldn’t have if you didn’t get out of your comfort zone.

Thank  you, Jeff, for your family’s service to our country! Salute!●
