Flag retirement box presented to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1845

S811-2.jpgS811-1.jpgAt the April meeting of our Post 1845, we had a guest, Jake DeStefano, and his family who came to present a flag disposal box to our group. The box was made to have a place to put the American flags that are turned in for proper retirement. Jake is a member of troop 776 at Advent United Methodist Church Simpsonville. He is working toward his Eagle Scout Badge for Boy Scouts.  To earn this Eagle Scout Badge, he is required to plan a project that helps a group, community or even a city, also he must raise all the funds and gather all the materials to complete his project. Jake raised the money to purchase a manufactured flag retirement box that is located at the Simpsonville Veterans Memorial, so everyone has a convenient place to respectfully retire their torn, tattered, and faded American flags. He also made two wooden boxes and painted them himself for Post 1845 and for his church so these two groups could have a retirement box to use as well. Attached is a picture of Jake presenting one of the wood boxes to the VFW.

Our Post 1845 wishes to thank Jake for his presentation of the flag boxes that our community will use for many years to come.●
