Simpsonville Sentinel Veteran of the Month

The Simpsonville Sentinel is proud to introduce our Veteran of the Month, U.S. Marine Corps Combat Veteran, Sergeant Adam Wiant.

S810-1.jpgAdam and his family moved to the Upstate from West Virginia when he was only 3 years old, so his father could attend USC in Columbia. During the September 11th, 2001 attack on America, Adam was glued to the TV. Watching the devastation, he became very motivated to join the Marine Corps so that he could fight for his beloved USA. Adam signed an ‘open contract’ allowing the Marines to use him where they needed him most. He was trained as a ‘Tracker’ or an Amphibious Assault Vehicle Crewman. Finding himself on back-to-back combat deployments to the province of Al Anbar, Iraq, Adam quickly adapted to his new role leading foot patrols in the towns bordering the Euphrates River. His unit was Special Operations Capable, which brought him even closer to the action, and he lost friends while deployed.

Returning home after a 4-year enlistment, Adam attended Greenville Tech focusing on Building and Construction. He started doing handyman projects and it grew quickly into a business, thanks to word-of-mouth referrals. Today his business, Wiant’s Handyman Service, is flourishing, but also provides him with free time to spend with his lovely wife Kaylyn, and their three young children, all under 10 years old!

Adam enjoys fishing in his free time, and often competes in local Bass Tournaments, although he prefers salt-water fishing. Fishing has become a type of therapy to help him relax from his combat experiences, to find God again and enjoy peace in his life.

Adam’s life motto is to follow your heart, not what the world and the rat race of chasing success, dictates you should do.

Thank you for your service to our country! Salute!●
