Stanley Richard Witkowski, known affectionately to family and friends as Dick, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on October 26, 2023. Born in North Tonawanda, NY, on April 20, 1936, to Stanley and Sophia Witkowski, he lived a full and rich life filled with service, love, and laughter.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Sophia Witkowski; his sister, Sylvia Witkowski Knott; and his treasured granddaughter, Megan Rene Witkowski. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Scott Witkowski; his children, Kimberly Witkowski Rollag, Scott Richard Witkowski, and Kara Witkowski Holley; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Marshall Barker; and his grandchildren, Stefon Richard Witkowski, Morganne Elizabeth Holley, Mallory Elizabeth Holley, and Matthew Scott Holley. His family was the center of his world, and he was a rock to them in return.

Dick was a proud undergraduate alumnus with a degree in history at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.  He earned a Master's Degree in Social Work from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida that propelled him into a distinguished career. He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons and later served as the Warden for the SC Department of Corrections. 

His dedication to public service was evident in his commitment to his work and the respect he earned from his colleagues. His service extended beyond his professional life, as he served in the Air Force and later as the Chairman of the Planning Commission for Simpsonville. His dedication to his community was as steadfast as his dedication to his family.

An avid golfer, Dick continued his love for the sport even after retirement, ending his career as a greeter at The Preserve at Verdae Golf Club. His passion for the game was only matched by his compassion for others. A patriotic man, he frequently donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, aiding veterans in need and demonstrating his enduring commitment to service.He was an avid Florida State team fan

Dick was best described as loving, spirited, and intelligent. His love was felt most deeply by his family, whom he cherished and supported unconditionally. His spirited nature was infectious, lighting up any room he entered and bringing joy to those around him. His intelligence was reflected in his successful career and his insightful conversations. He was a man who lived his life with purpose, integrity, and an unwavering sense of humor.

Dick Witkowski was a man who touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he impacted. His memory will be cherished and his life celebrated for the remarkable man he was.
