Municipal complex build continues as police headquarters goes vertical

S672-1.jpgThe municipal complex is a two-story 30,000 sq. ft. building with a new city hall and police department headquarters. After the groundbreaking earlier this year, crews have begun constructing the police department headquarters, which consists of space for investigations, holding cells, booking, offices, conference rooms, training areas, fitness space, duty area and other police functions.

Since the site is adjacent to and in view from the current police department, Chief Mike Hanshaw sees progress on the future headquarters every day.

S671-2.jpgWatching the progress of the police department headquarters and the project as a whole is exciting,” said Hanshaw, who participated in the February groundbreaking. “Command staff and officers are looking forward to taking advantage of the new space to continue to serve and protect the residents and visitors of Simpsonville.”

Housed in the same building as the police headquarters is Simpsonville City Hall, which will include all administrative function areas for the City of Simpsonville, Council Chambers or “The Ellipse,” offices, customer service and conference spaces and training areas. Simpsonville Community Relations Specialist Justin Campbell said the municipal complex is an improvement from the North East Main Street location for both staff and the public.

S671-3.jpg“The current city hall has served the City and public well for decades, but as Simpsonville improves, its public spaces must to improve, too,” Campbell said. “A municipal complex that is designed to accommodate the City workforce and population growth will benefit members of the public with quality customer service.”

Accompanying city hall and police headquarters is the Simpsonville Fire Department headquarters, a 22,000 sq. ft. building to house administrative space for fire operations, offices, living quarters, kitchen, gear lockers, fitness and training areas, dayroom and duty room.

In addition to the municipal complex and fire department headquarters, construction of a re-imagined Simpsonville City Park is also underway. The newly revamped City Park will include courts, football fields, refurbished dog park, restroom building, walking paths, disc golf course, event area or “Great Lawn,” fountain and other exciting amenities.
