Rhoda’s Recipes- Apple Dumplings

S414-1.jpgA few years ago, I was taking a jewelry making class.  One morning one of my classmates walked in carrying a dessert to share that smelled and tasted absolutely wonderful.  When she mentioned what the secret ingredient was, I was amazed.  I don’t even like Mountain Dew!  It shows that if you put the right ingredients together, the result can turn out beautifully.

The dumplings are best served while still warm.  If you store the dish in the refrigerator, warm the dumplings up in a microwave.  I find placing an individual dumpling in my microwave for one minute at 50 percent is perfect.  Adjust your timing as needed for your own microwave.

2 cans Original Pillsbury Crescent Rolls labeled 8 Big Rolls

3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and cut in to 6 wedges per apple

1 1/2 sticks butter

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

1 1/2 cups sugar

12 ounce can Mountain Dew

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Wrap each of the 16 apple wedges with one triangle of crescent dough.  Pinch seams together and mold around the apple wedge.  Place in greased 9 by 13 inch pan.  Melt butter in medium sized sauce pan.  Add remaining ingredients except Mountain Dew.  Bring to a boil and boil for 2 minutes.  Pour over dumplings.  Pour Mountain Dew over the top.  (Liquid will cook down).  Bake in oven for 35 minutes.
