At the yearly Christmas dinner at my husband’s cousin’s home, she often includes French Quarter Cheese Spread among the appetizers served.  Even though she and other family members provide quite a variety of delicious dishes, this has always been my favorite.  The photo shows it served with Ritz crackers.  Unfortunately, they were too crumbly and often broke apart.  Therefore, serve with a firm cracker such as Wheat Thins Big.

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tablespoon grated onion

4 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup dark brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard

1 cup chopped pecans

Firm crackers

Mix first 3 ingredients together and spread on bottom of small, flat casserole.  Mix next 4 ingredients.  Heat until butter melts.  Mix again.  Pour over cheese.  Refrigerate.  Bring to room temperature before serving.
