Primary election dates are set

Registration opened on March 16 for candidates seeking office in the June 2022 primary. The election will take place on June 8 with a runoff scheduled for June 20. Candidates for the office of State House of Representatives, South Carolina State Senate, Greenville County Council, Greenville County Officers are open for registration until noon on March 30.

Those interested in seeking a seat on the County School Board will file as non-partisan July 15 – August 15.

Primaries will be held on June 14 with run-offs scheduled for June 28.

Qualified candidate’s name’s will be on the ballot for the November 8 general election.

In district 27 representative Garry Smith has indicated he may retire which would leave an open seat for district 27 for the first time in over 20 years. The Republican primary has already had one candidate show interest in the seat and if Smith does not seek reelection the field is likely to be crowded. District 27 encompasses most of Simpsonville and some of Mauldin.

In our April and May issues, we will highlight local candidates as they prepare for the Primary.■
