Extensive Veterans Month Celebration In Fountain Inn

S218-1.jpgThe Fountain Inn Museum is the focal point for a month-long salute to those who served with US Armed Forces. With displays ranging from a Civil War cannon to authentic Revolutionary War uniforms, the exhibit opens  on November 1 and will run through the end of the month.  Spotlighting military history from 1776 to contemporary times, the exhibit features a full range of artifacts, including an extensive collection of uniforms lent by the families of the soldiers and sailors who wore them. A US Army Jeep, a Confederate cannon modeled after the 19th century Napoleon artillery piece, and a British bayonet found on the site of the Battle of Cowpens are also part of the items on display.

Coordinator Ron Urso noted that the intent of the Museum’s endeavor was to raise awareness of what it takes to keep this country free. “There is no way we could tell the entire story, but anyone who visits the Museum and sees these things cannot help but go away with an appreciation of the sacrifices our military has historically made and still makes today,” he said.

Artifacts in the exhibit include those on loan from the Revolutionary War Museum in Laurens, and Greenville’s Military Museum, whose board members, Charles Barber, Mike Keeler and Bob Dicey, furnished items from their personal collections. A long list of individuals from Greenville and Laurens Counties also contributed memorabilia.
