Money Matters

The First Trillionaire

S1329-1.jpgWith the sale of SpaceX stock on Friday, June 12th, Elon Musk became the world’s first Trillionaire.

Naturally, the Socialists and others of like character denounced Musk, as if his achievement is evil.  As one explicitly put it, the government should take that money; it is more than one person should possess.

There was no explanation why, of course.  Socialists believe any given person is not capable of knowing how to properly spend the money that person earns.  The government should step in, take control of that money, and leave you just what you need – their motto is “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”

But the government, of course, is just made up of people.  In fact, the government is made up of people who are clearly not as smart as Elon Musk, and certainly not as innovative as Elon Musk.

These same people, of course, will never be satisfied confiscating only Musk’s trillion dollars.  That would be followed by the confiscation of the money of the multi-millionaires, and then going after the “just” millionaires, and then those whose wealth only measures in the thousands – on and on.

But Socialists and their kindred spirits only want to spend money.  They have no clue where that money came from in the first place.

“I came, I saw, and I took it,” pretty much sums up Socialism.

Just to keep in perspective what a trillion dollars is, a trillion dollars is more money than the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Switzerland and every other country in the world below the top 20.

Where does money come from?

If the government just prints its money, its value quickly declines.  The hyper-inflation that occurred in Venezuela after the takeover by Maduro is a clear and painfully obvious example – one that makes you pity the people of Venezuela.  So is Russia’s worsening inflation, as it spends money it does not have to replace military equipment being destroyed in the war it started against Ukraine.

Money has to have value.

Elon Musk does not literally print money, of course.  But he does create goods which people want to buy.  And Musk is very good at knowing what goods people want.  So his sales add up to be sizeable – over a trillion dollars’ worth.

Musk’s value – his net worth – is over a trillion dollars because that is how much he has produced – built, created, etc. – and sold to customers who overall have enjoyed owning the things produced by Musk.

Musk has done much more:  his employees own SpaceX stock, which they received due to being a part of Musk’s company workforce.  Overnight, every one of those employees became a millionaire.

Elon Musk knows what Socialists do not:  productivity is a virtue – a good action to take.
