The President’s State of the Union review

The U.S. Constitution requires that the President present a speech to Congress each year concerning the State of the Union.

S1266-1.jpgPresident Trump’s speech on MARCH 24th was an unusually exciting event.  President Trump is rarely a boring speaker, and his speech this year was certainly no exception.

The speech lasted for an hour and a half – the longest ever, surpassing a State of the Union speech by the previous record-holder, President Clinton, whose speech lasted an hour and a quarter.

The audience contributed to the excitement.  Republicans uniformly stood up and applauded the President’s comments, interrupting his speech on a nearly constant basis.  Democrats, in contrast, did not applaud at all, except the very independent Democrat Senator Fetterman, who sometimes joined in with the Republicans in his applause.  All members of Congress, however, did give the President extended applause on his entry to the Chamber.

“Our nation is back – bigger and better and richer and stronger than ever before,” Trump began.  That sentiment would be the theme throughout the speech.  The contrast with the Biden era was clearly evident.  Trump’s dynamism would prevail throughout the speech.

He began with the observation that this July 4th will mark America’s 250th anniversary, and he emphasized the uninterrupted growth America has experienced in that time.  “You’ve seen nothing yet,” he continued, “We’re going to do better and better.  This is the golden age of America.”

Twelve months prior, Trump noted, he had “just inherited a nation in crisis, with a stagnant economy,  inflation at record levels, a wide open border, […] rampant crime, and wars and chaos all over the world.”  In the year since, he pointed out, a transformation has occurred.  Our economy “is roaring like never before, and our enemies are scared, […] and America is respected again.”

In the past four years, Trump reminded us, millions of illegal immigrants crossed our wide-open borders.  However, for the past year nine months, zero illegal immigrants have entered the U.S.  But, he added, “We will always welcome people who come into our country legally, people who will love our country, people who will work hard to maintain our country.”

Trump noted imports of fentanyl are down 56%, and, he reported, the past year saw the biggest decline in murders in recorded history – 125 years.  Later in his speech he stated that fentanyl has been termed a “weapon of mass destruction”, resulting in coordinated efforts with Mexico and other countries to destroy the criminal gangs responsible for its distribution.  The day prior to Trump’s speech, Mexican drug cartel boss “El Mencho” had been killed while resisting arrest.

S1266-2.jpgRegarding the economy, Trump reported, inflation has fallen from its all-time highs during the Biden Administration to the lowest levels in the last five years.  In the last three months of 2025, the inflation level was down to 1.7%.

Similarly, gasoline prices have fallen from highs of $6 per gallon and are now below $2.30 per gallon in most states, with a low of $1.85 per gallon in Iowa.

Mortgage rates are also falling.

The stock market has experienced 53 record highs in 2025.

In Biden’s four years in office, Trump noted, well under a trillion dollars in new investments occurred in the U.S.  In contrast, $18 trillion in new investments occurred in 2025.

US production of oil is up more than 600,000 barrels per year.  Likewise, natural gas production is at an all-time high.

Now, said Trump, “We are the hottest country anywhere in the world.”

Trump also reported more Americans are working than ever.  That increase is 100% in the private sector.  In the process, 2.54 million Americans were lifted off of food stamps.

“The state of our Union,” the President reported, “is strong.”

Trump noted Americans are winners again, and to emphasize his point, he introduced the Olympic gold-metal Men’s Hockey Team.  Even the Democrats joined in the applause.

Trump went on to note that the American Women’s team also won the Gold.  That team will be visiting the White House.

The President also announced that the 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angelas, and that the 2028 World Cup tournament will be in the U.S. as well.

Several other Americans were also noted for their achievements, including a Korean War Veteran and the 165 heroic rescues from the Texas flooding by Coast Guardsman Scott Ruskan.

Returning to politics, Trump reported the largest tax cuts in American history.  He went on to say that all Democrats, “Every single one of them” voted against the tax cuts.  “They wanted large tax increases to hurt the people, instead,” he stated.  The tax cuts included no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and no tax on Social Security for seniors starting in 2027, he emphasized.  Later in his speech, he promised to protect Social Security and Medicare from political pressures.  Interest on auto loans is now tax-deductible, but only if the car is made in America.

The President also mentioned the creation of the new tax-free investment “Trump accounts” for children (emphasizing that he did not name the accounts).  Funding will be provided by people like Michael and Susan Dell, who have donated $6.25 billion to the program (see TRUMPACCOUNTS.GOV for more information).  Each account will likely be worth over $100,000 by the child’s 18th birthday.

The President reiterated the value of his tariffs:  countries that “for years were ripping us off for decades, are now paying us hundreds of billions of dollars.”  He went on to say that the increase in tariff revenue will largely replace the income taxes imposed “on the people I love” – American citizens.

President Trump said again, “I put America first.  I love America.”

S1266-3.jpgHe then once more castigated President Biden and the Democrats for draining the wealth of hard-working productive people:  causing inflation that cost the average American family $34,000; the "Green New Scam"; open borders, and the 18 million illegal aliens, including many from prisons and mental institutions, with 11,888 murders as one consequence; the increase in medical costs since the passage of Obamacare.  In contrast, Trump will be reducing the cost of prescription drugs (see https://trumprx.gov/).

An interesting development:  as new Artificial Intelligence (AI) computer resources are created, due to their high energy demands they will be required to construct their own power-supply plants.

In another development, the President banned companies from buying up quantities of single-family homes to be rental units, making them unavailable to would-be home owners.

For those American workers who do not have access to a retirement plan with matching contributions, beginning in 2027 they will be offered access to the same type of retirement plan available to Federal workers, matching up to $1,000 each year.

In a direct reference to ex-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Trump asked for passage of the “Stop Insider-trading Act”, preventing members of Congress and their spouses from using insider knowledge to their profit on the stock market.

The President continued by addressing the theft of billions of dollars by those from Minnesota, California, Massachusetts, Maine, and elsewhere who took advantage of grants to line their own pockets.  The “War On Fraud” will be led by Vice President J. D. Vance.  Success of the program will be to Vance’s tremendous advantage, should he choose to run for President in 2028.

Trump added that ending these thefts would by itself balance the budget.  From that he dovetailed into asking Congress to pass a law barring any state from issuing a commercial driver’s license to an illegal alien.

Trump once again reminded everyone that Congressional Democrats, during the budget discussions, forced a cut-off of all funding for the Department of Homeland Security.  He specifically asked that the Democrats help to restore that funding, which, he pointed out, includes the budget for snow removal.

He then asked for all members of Congress to stand up who agreed that their first responsibility was to American citizens, and not illegal aliens.  Most Democrats, with Senator Fetterman being the notable exception, stayed seated.  The President’s response:  “You should be ashamed of yourself.”

Trump called out those politicians governing sanctuary cities, asking for penalties for those who block the removal of illegal aliens, including, drug lords and murderers.

He also requested that Congress pass the “Save America Act”, which will require proof of citizenship when voting, ending rampant cheating.  Trump claimed that 85% of all voters are in favor.  “There is only one reason to not want voter-id,” Trump said, “Only one reason:  they want to cheat. […] The only way they can get elected is to cheat.”

Repeatedly, Democrats refused to stand up and applaud – even for cases where they were in agreement with the President.  The President finally pointed at them, and said in a disgusted tone, “These people are crazy.  They’re crazy.”

Referring to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Trump stated, “We must reject political violence of any kind.”

Shortly afterwards, he asked Congress to put violent offenders behind bars, and assure that they stay there.

Going on to discuss international events, Trump listed 8 wars he brought to an end.

Regarding Iran, the President said, “We have never heard those serious words:  ‘We will never make a nuclear weapon.’ […]  I will never allow the world’s number one sponsor of terrorists to have a nuclear weapon.  We cannot let that happen.”  Note that this statement was uttered just four days prior to the attack on MARCH 28th, named “Operation Epic Fury”, which destroyed Iranian leadership.

“Peace through strength” is the American foreign policy position.

Trump noted that record recruitments are occurring in every service branch.

He went on to say every member of service received a “warrior’s dividend” of $1776.  He then added, “We love our service men, we love our police, […] and we love our firemen.”

Concerning the capture of Venezuelan dictator Maduro, Trump also noted that many political prisoners have been released, with more to come.  One of those released was brought into the Chamber.  An unidentified family member was clearly overwhelmed and clasped him in an almost desperate embrace of happiness.

S1266-4.jpgThe arrest of Maduro caused the pilot of the lead helicopter, Army Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover, to be wounded.  Nonetheless, he completed his mission.  Trump announced his accomplishment, introduced him as he stood in the Chamber, where he was awarded the Medal of Honor.

Others that participated in the attack will be receiving their awards at the White House.

Royce Williams, a Navy Fighter Pilot during the Korean War and now 100 years old, finally was awarded his Medal of Honor.  In a dogfight with seven MiGs, he shot down four that were Russian.  That fact was classified as Top Secret, for fears that direct combat between Americans and Soviets could lead to a nuclear World War. Finally the truth could be told, and his medal awarded.

Even the Democrats stood up and applauded.

The President finished the evening with a review of the 250 years of American history, from its beginnings as 13 colonies, through its expansion westward, to become the pinnacle of human civilization, the freest, richest, and most powerful nation the world has ever seen.

“There is no challenge that Americans cannot overcome, no dream too bold for us to chase, and these 250 years is just the beginning.  The Golden Age of America is upon us.  The Revolution that began in 1776 is not ended, because the flame of Liberty and Independence still burns in the hearts of every American patriot.  God bless America.”  Well said.
