Flying for the Fun of It – The Chilly Chili Fly-In

The Triple Tree Aerodrome holds aviation-oriented events throughout the year, for both general aviation pilots and their friends, and for radio-controlled (“RC”) model airplane enthusiasts.

Each year Triple Tree schedules a general aviation event on what is claimed to be historically the coldest Saturday of the year.  The weather for the 2026 event was indeed chilly, but the skies were CAVU – ceiling absent and visibility unlimited.

S1258-2.jpgS1258-3.jpgAs a result, more than fifty airplanes and over 300 people arrived this year for Uncle John’s Chilly Chili Fly-In.  Some attendees arrived by car; as long as someone in the car has an FAA pilot’s license, an Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) membership card, or an Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) membership card, they and their guests are welcome.

Naturally, Chili was the main menu item for the lunch, and the Chili served at Triple Tree was delicious.

S1258-4.jpgThe Chilly Chili Fly-In was also a great opportunity to see old friends and make new friends, to hear about the latest improvements being made at Triple Tree, and to hear about other aviation events coming up in South Carolina.

Triple Tree also announced an exciting new event to be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10:00am to 3:30pm.  This will be Triple Tree’s first event open to the general public:  the inaugural “Pistons and Props” car show!  The show will feature not only automobiles, but also aircraft and RC model airplane demonstrations.  Lunch will be available from 11:00am to 1:30pm.  For more information, see their webpage, “https://tta.aero/pnp/”.
