Celebrations

November 7, 2025 by Bob Gecy

Thank you to all of our Veterans

Veterans Day, observed on November 11, is a U.S. federal holiday honoring all military veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Originating as Armistice Day after World War I, it was renamed in 1954 to recognize veterans of all wars. Unlike Memorial Day, which honors those who died in service, Veterans Day celebrates all veterans, with an emphasis on thanking those still living. From the infantryman, the cook, to the General, all who served in the military did so with one assignment...protect our country from enemies foreign and domestic. Every job supported this purpose. Young men and women left their families and friends to serve our country as volunteers. This is their day of remembrance.

Veterans Day features ceremonies such as the wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery, parades, and community events nationwide. Symbols like the American flag and red poppies are commonly displayed. Veterans Day also raises awareness about challenges faced by veterans returning to civilian life and highlighting the need for continued support. Americans are encouraged to show appreciation through participation in events or personal gestures, reinforcing national gratitude for veterans' service.
