The history of the United States Navy dates back to the American Revolutionary War, when the Continental Congress established the Continental Navy in 1775 to challenge British maritime dominance.

S1161-4.jpgS1161-5.jpgAlthough disbanded after the war, the need for maritime defense led to the creation of the Department of the Navy in 1798 and the commissioning of the first six frigates, including the famous USS Constitution.

Over the centuries, the U.S. Navy has played a pivotal role in conflicts such as the War of 1812, the Civil War, both World Wars, and the Cold War, evolving into the world's most powerful naval force. Today, the U.S. Navy continues to safeguard American interests across the globe, upholding its tradition of readiness and innovation.

The history of the United States Navy encompasses its foundation in 1775 and evolution into a prominent global maritime force, distinguished by numerous significant milestones and advancements.
