A ‘simply patriotic spirit’... More than 10K people attend Celebrate Simpsonville for Village People, fireworks

On July 3 at the CCNB Amphitheater at Heritage Park, a sea of people sang along with requisite hand movements as the world-renowned iconic Village People performed one of the most popular songs of all time: Y.M.C.A.

More than 10,000 people attended Celebrate Simpsonville 2022, which was hosted by the City of Simpsonville and sponsored by Duke Energy. As a free event for the public, Celebrate Simpsonville celebrates Independence Day and brings the community together for a night of live music and fireworks.

An initial thunderstorm delayed the opening of the gates by 45 minutes from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Once the storm passed, members of the public began flooding into the Amphitheatre while DJ SHA entertained before American disco favorite A Taste of Honey performed. Village People and original member Victor Lewis took the stage just after dark, performing the hits “In the Navy,” “Macho Man” and “Y.M.C.A.,” after which a spectacular fireworks display was held in “The Meadow” just north of the Amphitheatre. Simpsonville Community Relations Specialist Justin Campbell said the City could not have been happier with the success of Celebrate Simpsonville.

“The rain was no match for the simply patriotic spirit throughout the Upstate,” Campbell said. “Celebrate Simpsonville is a free event for the whole family that can be enjoyed by music lovers, fireworks enthusiasts and patriots. We are grateful to everyone who joined us, all the staff who made the event possible, Earth FM for promoting the event and Duke Energy for its sponsorship. We can’t wait to see what Celebrate Simpsonville has to offer next year.”
