Sentinel Veteran of the Month

S357-1.jpgMajor Michelle Holcomb’s 20-year military career started with the Women’s Army Nurse Corps, which dates to 1901 and did not officially become a branch of the Army until 1947. After serving on bases in Alabama and Georgia, Michelle went to Vietnam in 1970-71. After a 13-month tour in both Saigon and Pleiku, she returned stateside to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC, then on to Ft. Sam Houston in Texas, and finally retired out of Ft. Meade in Maryland.

Following such an impressive career most people would sit back and relax a little, but not Michelle! As an avid motorcycle rider since childhood starting with dirt bikes, Michelle does not know how to downshift. She put her energy into high gear and helped organize the very first Rolling Thunder event in Washington, DC in 1985, and sat on the Board of Directors of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation at the national level.

Locally, Michelle serves as the 1st Vice Commander of American Legion Post 200, and the Director of the Post 200 American Legion Riders.

Michelle’s greatest pride is her 30-year marriage to Lenny, her four children and first grandchild due to arrive in July. Most Friday’s you can find Major Michelle Holcomb and her Trike in Bowling Springs at the Plankowner’ s Veteran Lunch.
