Column: Inn the Know

Since our founding, America has advanced on an unending path toward becoming a more perfect Union.  This journey, led by courageous individuals who have set their sights on reaching for a brighter tomorrow, has never been easy or smooth. As a professional local government manager, I believe great cities do not ignore their most painful moments; they embrace them, and in remembering those moments, we begin to heal and grow stronger.

So, this June, as the city celebrates both Pride and Juneteenth, I encourage everyone to reflect on the painful past and celebrate the extraordinary healing, hope, and progress that is possible in our nation and city.

I also encourage every community member to #JoinINN during our summer events because our city is at its strongest when we come together.

Every Friday night from June to August, from 6 to 9 pm, we have our Growler Haus Sounds of Summer with live music, food trucks, and kids’ activities. It will be fun for the whole family.

Every Saturday morning from June to August, from 8 am to 12 pm; we have our Farmer’s Market with over 50 vendors selling everything from fresh bread, local honey, vegetable, and fruit. It is an excellent opportunity to skip the supermarket and purchase directly from a local farmer.

On June 18th, from 12 to 6 pm, we have our Juneteenth Soul Food Festival. Juneteenth is a holiday for every community member to reflect on the terrible toll of slavery and celebrate the extraordinary healing, hope, and progress that continues in our nation and city. We will have 90 vendors, 2 DJs, poetry, live music, and the best food in South Carolina at this festival.

On July 2nd, we have our Fireworks Spectacular featuring Cravin’ Melon. The festival will include laser tag and a kid’s foam party on Main Street.

So, this summer, I encourage you to find one of our events to #JoinINN and celebrate with us because Fountain Inn is only the #BestInnSC when we come together as a community.
