Fountain Inn High School

Without developing a mission and vision, you certainly cannot achieve goals. In the spirit of excellence, Mr. Josh Tillman, band director of Fountain Inn High School, has a achieved the beginning of many goals by establishing Fountain Inn High School Band of Fury with approximately 39 students, out of its Inaugural Class of 320 students in August 2021.

S335-1.jpgFIHS Band of Fury gives each student a reason to play an instrument and a reason to continue to get better. Our small band is definitely worthy of our mascot, Fury, depicted as a Phoenix rising from ashes. The band will rise in growth, competitions, rewards and life long impact on generation of music students. The students are just that - students. It’s not about a superior rating or a first-place trophy. It’s about creating leaders of tomorrow in the band room by encouraging and supporting their passion.

It’s about a town, Fountain Inn, once known as “The best little town in South Carolina”, supporting the band because this band strives for excellence. It’s about the community support as the band marched in the Christmas Parade seeing the overwhelming response of waves, smiles and acknowledgements as the band marched down main street, it was something to behold. If you attended a football game during the season, you rocked back and forth as the band put the music into motion. You may have heard, the band hammered notes and rhythms at Carowinds Festival of Music capturing a Superior rating being recognized among the very best. They certainly had the Men of Color Summit, hosted by Clemson University, rocking as they played “Tiger Rag” in their new uniforms.

These band students are our community and community involvement is as simple as asking one to participate and support performances, make donations and endorse fundraisers which provides funding for equipment, instruments, competitions and show fees throughout band season. A common goal throughout the community is to make this band outstanding. Your support matters!

The flare of the Marching Band is a visual ensemble of our Color Guards. They represent the spirit and pride by performing dances and routines that enhance and interpret the music the band play. They are proficient in spinning and performing with a variety of props including standard and oversized flags and rifles.

Color Guards has evolved into a separate activity known as Winter Guard which is an indoor highly skilled competitive dance known as Sport of the Art. The sport, as it is called, is held indoors during the winter months with no band backing, only music. Things such as flags, rifles, sabers and any other props are used to give that competitive edge. Our students are spinning, tossing and throwing equipment while dancing! This sport is demanding physically and mentally. It is practice, practice and more practice. It is deep focus. It is flawless in timing and movement. Yes, Winter Guard is a little-known sport but under our Band Director, Mr. Josh Tillman and Instructor, Dylan Brummitt we are competing and winning awards.
