Obituary - Donald “Don” Brian Cashin

Donald Brian Cashin, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 25, 2022.

S309-1.jpgDon is survived by his wife, Sharon; his son Matthew Cashin (Laura) and grandchildren Sarah and Daniel of Florence, South Carolina; his sister, Jane Cashin Murphy of Simpsonville, South Carolina and her son, Jack Murphy of Nashville, Tennessee. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Myrtle Cashin.

Don was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. As a student at Orangeburg High School, Don played baseball, football, and was a member of the track team. He attended Clemson University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Management in 1969 and was a lifelong Tiger.

Upon graduation, he began his career in the banking industry.` In 1984, he relocated to Athens, and took a job with Athens First (now Synovus). During this time, he was an active member of the Rotary Club. He was the Group Vice President for Loan Administration when he retired in 2008.

Don loved the great outdoors. He emulated his father as an avid hunter. He loved to hunt turkeys and deer and enjoyed camping. He often visited and camped in National Parks with his wife and friends. He rarely missed an opportunity to hit the road in his beloved, decked out Jeep.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation be made in Don’s name to the National Parks Foundation at https://www.nationalparks.org/.

The family received friends and a Celebration of Don’s Life was held Tuesday, March 29, 2022, in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens, Georgia with Chaplain Kevin “Chappy” Hynes officiating.■
